Questions about MndUP (mndup.com)
Short answers to what buyers, data protection officers and assessors ask, answer first.
What is MndUP?
MndUP (mndup.com) is document-screening software. Panels of AI analysts read many documents against an organisation's own rules, code checks every quote against the source, and a person makes the decision. It was first proven on grant and application screening.
Is MndUP related to motor neurone disease?
No. MndUP is software and has nothing to do with the disease. The name is pronounced “mind-up”, and MND here stands for Measured. Noted. Decided.
Does the AI decide?
No. A person decides. The AI analysts read, score and give written reasons; the assessor accepts, changes or rejects, and that decision is what is recorded. Cases where the analysts agree are still sampled for a person to check.
How are quotes checked?
Code searches for each quote in the source document. A quote it finds is marked verified. A quote it cannot find is marked unverified and kept visible, so you see it rather than lose it.
Where is data processed?
Each organisation chooses one of three settings: anywhere (the default), EU only, or only on a dedicated computer with the local edition. Model calls follow that setting. MndUP is hosted in the EU on AWS eu-west-1. Web and public-register lookups, and connectors you turn on (webhooks, Drive, storage exports), send their requests to those outside services.
Is MndUP GDPR-compliant, and do you offer a DPA?
We design for GDPR: EU hosting, a residency setting enforced on every model call, roles and a record of each step. A data processing agreement is available on request. Your organisation remains responsible for its own lawful basis for processing.
What about the EU AI Act and human oversight?
MndUP is designed for human oversight: a person makes every decision, sees the evidence, and can overrule the analysts. We make no claim of legal conformity; whether a use is high-risk is for you and your adviser to judge.
Can MndUP screen scholarships and course applications?
Yes, as screening and summarising against your published criteria, with a person deciding. MndUP does not rank applicants for admission.
What does a pilot involve?
A pilot runs your own rules on a set of your past applications and compares the results with your own decisions. The scope, the set of applications and what counts as a good result are agreed with you first.
Which languages does it support?
The interface is available in English, Swedish, German and French. More languages are planned.
